Four Tips On How To Plan For The Future
During my early and mid-twenties, I never paid much attention to how I want my future would be. After college, I had no idea what I want to do with my life. One moment I am thinking of pursuing a career as a lawyer, the next I feel like teaching could be fun as well. I had no plans for the future at all but earn a living to pay the bills and put food on the table.
Most young professionals these days are facing the same dilemma. I guess it’s because there are so many things to do that sticking to only one thing is somehow difficult. But, that’s the beauty of planning. We all don’t know what will happen in the future, but with plans already laid out, it will be easier to just adjust the part you want to change and focus on the big goal again.
To help you figure out what your plan for the future will be, here are some tips that will help you in realizing and achieving it.
1. What do you want to accomplish?
I’m pretty sure you have lots of things you want to do in the future. Five to ten years from now, what do you want to achieve in your life? Do you want to own a business, rise in the corporate ladder, travel all around the world? List everything down. You cannot go on planning without knowing what you want to do first. Once you have it written down, start to figure out ways to make it happen.
2. Act on your goal
Achieving goals doesn’t happen overnight. You have to work hard to get it. What’s the use of having a big goal when all you do is sit down and wait for it to happen? There is a big difference between a visionary and a dreamer. All visionaries are dreamers but not all dreamers are visionaries. Like what they said, we are the makers of our destiny. Make yours happen.
3. Save
This is one of the things I regret when I was younger. Whenever I have money, I just spend it on whatever things that interest me. Looking back, I would have a hefty amount of money under my name if only I learned how to save back then. Anyway, now I’ve realized the importance of having an emergency fund. It doesn’t mean that you won’t spend money on yourself anymore. Just spare a portion of your paycheck and put it aside to save.

4. Big Priorities Come First
There are so many things we want to achieve in life. It isn’t a bad thing though. However, sometimes those are the reason we get sidetracked and forget what our main goal is. That is why it is important to focus on the big things that will get us closer to our dreams. Do not get distracted on other things.
