“Quiet the mind,
and the soul will speak.”
~Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavati
We all crave for happiness and contentment in life, however, life is not a bed of roses. We are vulnerable to negative emotions like depression, stress, and anxiety. Since we cannot predict the future, avoiding these emotions is impossible. What we can do, though, is to fight against it.
One of the things we can do to fight against it is by meditating since one of the benefits of meditation is to help us clear the mind from any negative thoughts.
What is meditation?
Yoga International defines meditation as a precise technique for resting the mind and attaining a state of consciousness that is different from the normal waking state. Meditation was first practiced in India, and some people associated it with religion. However, meditation is actually a science, which means that it follows a particular order, has definite principles, and produces results that are verifiable.
What Happens When We Meditate
According to Buddha, when a person meditates, it trains the mind to “not dwell in the past or contemplate about the future.” It allows you to be one with yourself, helping you explore your inner dimensions.
In meditation, the mind is clear, relaxed, and inwardly focused. When you meditate, you are fully awake and alert, but your mind is not focused on the external world or the events taking place around you. Meditation requires an inner state that is still and one-pointed so that the mind becomes silent. When the mind is silent and no longer distracts you, meditation deepens.- Swami Rama, Yoga International
